A colleague and I are SUPER EXCITED to announce our very first vlog, i.nspiration e.ducation. The link to our first post is below in which we take you on a journey with nine high school students and one very large waterfall! We also discuss the rationale behind i.nspiration e.ducation.

Our goal is to publish one informal, but research-based, video on our channel each week, highlighting best practices in education and inspiration for teachers of life-long learning. We hope you enjoy getting to know us and subscribe to watch upcoming posts.

i.e. 18. Interdisciplinary CIA (Link in bio) Ever wondered how you could use art in science class? Combining two or more disciplines in one activity is what educators call interdisciplinary studies. A best practice in education is to draw from multiple fields of study in our curriculum, instruction, and assessment (CIA). By doing so, we are asking our students to create, connect, synthesize, etc. by thinking across four-walled boundaries. #teachersofinstagram #teacherlife #teachersofinstagram #educators #interdisciplinaryeducation #pedagogy #educators #assessment
Super amazing day on a field trip with my government class! Today we heard from the border patrol themselves what it means to defend our country as well as protect life. We also visited the border wall to see for ourselves what we've only heard about from the media. It is always a fantastic thing to get out and discover for oneself what reality is. #inquirybasedlearning #lifelonglearning #inspirationeducation #highschoolstudents #education #educators #highschoolteacher #teachersofinstagram #teacherlife #borderwall #borderpatrol
i.e. 17. Professional Development (link in bio) Most teachers have sat through a less-than-productive professional development session. This is really unfortunate, considering that professional development is a fantastic way to build positive school culture. In this episode, Chan and Mrs. T. show you one of our most recent professional development sessions, although this one is not what you would expect! We might be dressed like dinosaurs, but in the process are building relationships and earning "street-cred" with our students, both of which positively impact student achievement in the classroom.
This teacher spent her birthday on a history travel adventure. We stayed at the historic @gadsdenhotel. Current and former students, do you remember what the #gadsdenpurchase was? We also spent some time at the @slaughterranch, the former home of John Slaughter, Cochise County's sherriff in the late 1800s. Both #geronimo and #panchovilla stepped foot on this 65K acre ranch, of which half sits in Mexico and the other half in America. We also stopped by the #borderwall and stuck our hands into Mexico. I love learning on vacation! #teachersofinstagram #teacherlife
i.e. 16 is up (link in bio)! Episode 16 of i.nspiration e.ducation highlights best practices in summative assessments. Looking for ways for your students to showcase their learned body of knowledge at the end of a lesson, unit, or semester? We've included at least five examples here! #summativeassessments #problem-basedlearning #highschooleducation #creativeassessments #formativeassessments #pbl #real-worldeducation #interdisciplinaryeducation #collaborativeeducation #buildingrelationships #lifelonglearning
Episode 15 of i.nspiration e.ducation! (link in bio) Inspirational teachers should consider the depth at which their students can demonstrate their learned knowledge. The depth of their understanding can vary from a basic understanding, e.g., memorize vocabulary words, to the highest depths, such as the critique of academic sources or the connection of thematic patterns. At these high levels, students are using what they have learned in alternative academic and real-world contexts. Although many variations on how to display (through a graphic organizer) and articulate the levels of depth of knowledge exist, most provide a delineation of four (recall, skills and concepts, strategic thinking, and extended thinking). #teachersofinstagram #teacherlife #teachersofinstagram #educators #studentcenteredlearning #highschoolstudents #highschoolreacher #depthofknowledge

The first farmer's market (led by the middle school students) was a HIT!!! There were so many people I couldn't believe my eyes. In minutes most of the goodies were gone! Students were raising money to support the annual vet fees of our farm. WAT TO GO! #wearedcs #teachersofinstagram @desertchristianschools #farmersmarket #middleschool #enterpreneurship
Ice cream or mashed potatoes? Our art teacher @alysonvanvactor showed her students how to make fake food that won't melt under hot camera lighting! Way cool! #teachersofinstagram #wearedcs
